Spring feels like it has sprung these past few days. We’ve seen very little of blue skies this year so far here in Yorkshire, so when they finally appear, I’m left feeling inspired. The cocoon I’d placed myself in for winter is slowly breaking away and I’m looking for the signs of spring and the rising sap much alike the rising energy in me. Spring is such a beautiful season, filled with colour and gentle warmth. I feel renewed and invigorated and with my word of the year for 2026 being Simplicity, I wanted to find a simple way to connect with the energy of this season.
So, in order to be able to connect more deeply with Spring this year, I’ve decided to take on a challenge. During the month of March, I will be walking 100 miles to raise money for the WWF. I’ll be exploring the Yorkshire landscape, searching for the signs of spring and witnessing the great unfurling through hopefully blue skies and sunshine, but more likely the cloudy and rainy days, too. I’ll be exploring the plants as they grow once more, the birds as they begin to make their nests, and seeking inspiration to nurture my muse. There’ll be plenty of pictures and videos on my social media profiles, and I aim to blog some of my thoughts, too. My goal is to walk roughly 3 miles per day, though some days may be more or less. Especially on the weekends, where I’m able to travel a little further away from my home.
I’m looking forward to this challenge, and being able to connect with the land that surrounds my home. I’ll be exploring Yorkshire- mostly North Yorkshire, but also East Yorkshire and some parts of West Yorkshire. And of course, York itself. I begin on Sunday, so I’ll share more next week about how my days are filled, the places I visit and the signs of Spring I see.
If you have any suggestions of places to go within North Yorkshire, please do reach out and let me know! If you’d like to sponsor me, and help raise money for the WWF, you’ll find that link here.
