It may still be wet and cold outside, but the Earth around us (at least here in the UK) is beginning the shake the hold of Winter and the first signs of Spring are starting to stir. Other than being thankful for the lengthening days, my thoughts turn to Spring Cleaning. One of my traditions is to Spring clean everything between Imbolc- which was 1st February- and the Spring Equniox- which this year falls on Sunday 20th March. When I say everything- I mean everything.

Spring is a time of renewal, rebirth, creativity and growth. Life is returning around us- the buds are on the trees, birds are beginning to prep their nests and animals are starting to birth their young. New shoots are emerging from the ground and we can start to emerge from our wintery slumber. The energy outside shifts- there’s more sunlight and fresh, slightly warmer air is circulating around us and we start to feel energised to do something.

If you want to make the most of this energy- here are 6 ways for you to clear and clean the energy in your home!

1- Wash Everything.

It’s natural that there’s a build-up of dust during the colder months when we have drier air from the heaters and radiators being on. Now that the air is warming up, it’s the perfect time to start washing everything- if it’s fabrics that are going in the washing machine, try and get them outside on a sunny day to dry- sunshine dried clothes, bedding and blankets smell so much better and if you’re a mama like me- sunshine is great at bleaching stains out! Switch out your usual softener for something fresh- you’ll smell it more and it’ll help you with those new, fresh Spring vibes.

2- Cleansing The Energy.

A great way to embrace Spring (a season that is associated with air) is to cleanse your home with the smoke from burning herbs. Research herbs that are local to your area- I like using lavender as it’s native to where I live. You could create your own bundle or loose incense (always make sure you burn this safely). As the smoke goes around your home, imagine it collecting all of the stagnant energy and carrying it away out of open doors and windows to help cleanse your home and get it feeling fresh again.

3- Open your doors / windows.

Over Winter, the energy as well as the air in our homes can become stagnant- invite that invigorating and refreshing energy of Spring into your home by opening windows and doors- get fresh air circulating, especially as you’re cleaning and cleansing. The energy can feel very different in a room just by allowing the air to circulate in it and replacing any stagnant air with fresh, spring air!

4 – Place Crystals.

Crystal’s hold the beneficial properties of different properties- look for crystals that can help keep your home energetically clear, harmonious and sacred. Some of my favourites are Rose Quartz (for love), Black Tourmaline (for protection) and Selenite (for purification). Make sure you research how to care for your crystals- some can be bleached by the sun, be a fire hazard if left in direct sunlight or can be easily damaged if not taken care of.

5- Sound Baths.

I find the music I listen to in Spring changes from what I would listen to during the Winter months- something to get me up and moving or something to help me chill and relax during Spring. The same can be said for your home- try using bells, drums, clapping, singing or other sounds (such as nature sounds) to help move stagnant air in your home. This can be one of the easiest ways to help move energy in your home and give it a good cleansing atmosphere.

6 – Bring the Outside In.

One of my favourite ways of cleansing the energy in my home, being green fingered, is to bring the outside into my home. I love having plants around my house- they can naturally draw out any impurities in the air and help to improve your mood, concentration, reduce anxiety and increase the oxygen in your home by removing the carbon dioxide. Be aware of the needs of the plants- light levels etc, as well as being aware of if they are poisonous to any furbabies that you may have in your home!

Some of my personal favourites

  • Snake Plant – easy to maintain and releases oxygen at night to help you drift off to sleep.
  • Spider Plant – a good air purifier and easy to create new plants from the new shoots.
  • Aloe Vera Plant – removes toxins from the air, releases oxygen day and night and has great medicinal properties.

Have you tried any of these methods to help you cleanse and clean your home for the Spring months? Or do you have a favourite indoor plant for your home? Let me know if you do- I’m always on the lookout for more amazing plants for my sanctuary!
