There's a wild frenzy to witness. It beats throughout us all- within and without. From the first kiss of sunlight to the gentle caress of petals falling- nature knows there’s a cause for celebration. It’s a primal instinct that calls us now. The beating of our heart urges us forward; step after step, with bird song as our calling. The Maiden is changing- undertaking a journey of transformation from Maiden to Lover. Her heart is bursting with love and new explorations- maybe you remember this feeling, too. The feeling of love, all shiny and new. Long nights of candlelight, and days of sunkissed dreams.
Watch closely, you'll see her, leaving the bridal trail behind her. Delicate white and pink petals, covering the ground she walks. A little more sure of herself, opening like a beautiful bloom, inviting us and drawing us in.
Can you see it? Can you feel it? The blades of grass, swaying in their lushness, calling us to lie down and bask in the earth's seduction. A splash of colour- yellow and white, painted in perfection among the green.
Ah yes- it's truly a time of celebration. Take a moment- take an extra lungful to bask in the delicate and delicious scents of Beltane. Lay down upon the earth and let her pull you in. See the colours around you- let your eyes be drawn to the vivid red. Feel the sun upon your skin, sense the passion of life that is bursting forth. There's sensuality in every moment, in every movement.
Let it be your guide- let it be your muse- let it take you by the hand and remind you of the beauty both without and within.
- by Laura JonesBeltane is a season that brings the start of Summer. The delicate pastels of Spring are starting to give way to richer, lusher colours. The weather is starting to warm up (we’ve even had a few heatwaves here in the UK already!) and everything feels more alive. It’s a time of celebration- the archetypal journey of the Goddess is turning from Maiden to Lover and joins in union with her lover and this sacred marriage is often a time when our own friends and family will think of getting married- May is at the beginning of the wedding season and we witness the love, friendship, joy and sacredness of life when we join in with these celebrations. We’re reminded of the pleasure and beauty of life- the sacredness of it.
Personally, this is a time when Aphrodite starts to call my name. Aphrodite en Kepois, specifically. It’s easy to witness the fertility of my garden – colour is appearing everywhere and I love spending time outside to notice the subtle differences as Spring starts to give way to Summer. Each new bud that blossoms and opens reminds me of Aphrodite of the Gardens. I enjoy the pleasure of witnessing the beauty of each flower, bud and petal as an act of devotion. I tend my own garden in honour of Aphrodite. In turn, I find my muse all around me, and more poetry comes from my soul, capturing the energy of the season- the sensuality, beauty, seduction and pure joy.
Beltane blessings to you all.
